Jeremy Lin Apologizes For His Success During Black History Month

The apologetic Jeremy Lin

NEW YORK, NEW YORK- Jeremy Lin, the twenty-three year-old overnight basketball sensation who plays point guard for the New York Knicks held a press conference today saying he was truly very sorry for his unbelievable success during the month of February- Black History Month.

Lin, who is of Taiwanese descent, stood before a group of reporters at Madison Square Garden and said, “Words can’t possibly describe the heartache I have for my black teammates knowing that I, Jeremy Lin, an Asian American, have stolen the spotlight from them during the month best known for celebrating the greatness of African Americans throughout the history of this fine nation.”

Lin, who played college ball at Harvard, burst onto the basketball scene a couple of weeks ago to help the Knicks start a winning trend. In the ensuing days the young man has garnered worldwide attention for his stellar play and calm, humbled composure during media events.

“It was never my intention to rock the National Basketball Association during this particular month,” Lin continued. “It just happened that way and I really hope my teammates don’t hold a grudge against me. Would I have preferred my success come during the month of March? Since we don’t have any Irish players on the squad my answer would be a resounding yes!”

Amar’e Stoudemire, an African American mega-star who plays with Lin, said he didn’t think it was that important. “I’m not sure why Jeremy is making such a big deal out of his emergence happening during Black History Month. It’s just coincidence, right? It doesn’t bother me one bit.”

But Lin didn’t see it that way during his press conference. “I also want to apologize to my black teammates for my jersey outselling all of theirs by a wide margin these days. It’s not my fault, really. I have no control over what people buy and I just want to get that out there. I’m sure Knicks fans will go back to buying my black teammates jerseys once my hot streak is over.”

Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni appeared teary-eyed as Lin concluded his remarks. Inothernewz.com asked the coach why he seemed so melancholy.

“I’m not sad at all,” he said. “It’s just that it touches the very depths of my heart to see Jeremy holding a press conference to try and deflect the attention away from him and unto his black teammates since it’s Black History Month. What a stand-up guy! I wish I had a single daughter for him to date.”

Lin thanked the reporters for stopping by and offered each and every one a hug before heading off to practice.

What a guy, indeed.
